Former Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked on Tuesday lauded a decision by the Jerusalem District Court, which ruled that alleged Jewish Australian sex offender, Malka Leifer, is mentally fit to stand trial and said that the case has put a strain on Israeli-Australian relations and caused harm to the victims.
Malka Leifer had claimed mental illness in fighting her return to Australia, and the case has dragged on in Israel since 2014. Leifer, who was the principal of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish school in Melbourne, has denied allegations of sexual misconduct with her students.
