Israel saw its highest daily tally of new coronavirus cases since the start of the outbreak, health officials said on Tuesday.
The Health Ministry said 2,180 people had tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, surpassing the previous record of 2,100 cases reported on July 28. With 30,853 tests conducted, the infection rate now stands at 7%.
Since midnight Tuesday, 169 people tested positive for the pathogen.
The death toll from coronavirus-related complications has increased to 946, of whom 619 passed away in the months of July and August.
At least 890 patients are currently being treated in hospitals, of whom 438 are in a serious condition, while 119 require ventilator support.
Jerusalem has reported the highest number of new virus cases over the past seven days, with 1,265 diagnoses, followed by Bnei Brak with 485, Ashdod with 403 and Tel Aviv with 288.
On Monday, health officials released a list of 23 "red" cities and communities, comprised based on coronavirus czar Prof. Ronni Gamzu's "traffic light" model.
