An amendment to Basic Law: The Government that would facilitate the coalition agreement signed by Benjamin Netanyahu and Benny Gantz passes its first reading in the Knesset.
The agreement calls for the two leaders to rotate the premiership after 18 months, which required a change to the Basic Law.
The amendment passed with 72 votes in favor and 31 against. MKs from Defense Minister Naftali Bennett's Yamina party were absent from the vote.
