Israel's coronavirus death toll has reached 400, with eight new deaths reported since midnight Saturday, health officials confirmed.

    The Coronavirus National Knowledge and Information Center said since midnight Saturday at least 1,009 new coronavirus cases have been identified in Israel, bringing the total number of diagnoses recorded over the weekend to 2,608.
    The number of active patients currently ill with the disease has climbed to 27,502, with the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases since the start of the outbreak now standing at 49,054.
    After 13,856 coronavirus tests conducted since midnight, the contagion rate continues to hover just above 7%.

    The report added the number of seriously ill patients has increased by nine since midnight and now stands at 217, with 56 requiring ventilator assistance.
    Among the latest fatalities is an 86-year-old woman who died only four days after being hospitalized at Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya.
    The hospital said the woman suffered from a number of underlying health problems.
