During his inauguration speech at the Foreign Ministry, the new minister Gabi Ashkenazi said that he will work to "responsibly push forward the American peace plan, with safeguarding previous peace agreements and the national interest of Israel."
"U.S. President Donald Trump is giving Israel a historical opportunity to shape its borders and future," said Ashkenazi.
He then added that Israel must "keep its strategic ties with Jordan and Egypt," which he called "important allies in the struggle against the various challenges in the region."
