Israel's coronavirus death toll up to 193, with 14,882 confirmed cases

The Health Ministry says there was no increase in the number of patients needing ventilator support in past 24 hours; among the latest fatalities is a rabbi who founded non-profit that organizes kidney transplants

As of Friday morning, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Israel stands at 14,882, while 193 patients have succumbed to the disease, health officials confirmed.

  • Among the latest fatalities is 55-year-old Rabbi Avraham Yeshayahu Heber, who founded the Matnat Chaim non-profit that organizes kidney transplants. He died late Thursday at the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem.
    His funeral took place early Friday in accordance with the Health Ministry's guidelines. Since all of his nuclear family also tested positive for COVID-19, none attended the burial.

    Of the latest number, 139 patients are in serious condition, a rise of 2% in the past 24 hours, including 107 in need of ventilator support, no change from Thursday morning. At least 101 patients are in moderate condition, a decline of 10% in the past 24 hours.
    Some 8,764 patients have mild symptoms.
    The number of Israelis who have recovered from the virus now stands at 5,685. The number of recoveries has now exceeded the number of new diagnoses for the ninth day in a row.

    There are currently 421 coronavirus patients receiving treatment in hospitals while 6,102 people are fighting the virus at home.
    Another 2,501 people are currently receiving treatment in specially designated hotels and none are awaiting a decision on whether they will be treated.
