Rabbi Eliezer Berland will remain in custody for at least eight more days after he appeared in court Thursday.
The judge who ruled he must remain in jail heard from his council that Berland had undergone cardiac catheterization but was returned to his cell soon after.
"He is a sick man," said Amit Hadad who is also counsel to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Give him Mentos candy, the judge responded alluding to claims that Mentos was Berland's prescribed cure for his ailing flock.
