IDF soldier killed in Golan road accident

A soldier in the IDF Nahal Brigade was killed Wednesday when a truck overturned in the Hermon region of the Golan Heights.

  • Corporal Shahar Algazar, 20, from Moshav Ranen in southern Israel, was killed when the vehicle came off a narrow, winding road and overturned on his position, trapping him underneath it.

    Algazar was extricated by firefighters and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
    He was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant.

    The scene of the accident
    An IDF officer was hurt during the incident and was transported to Rambam Healthcare Campus in Haifa by Magen David Adom medics. He was given a CT scan and treated at the hospital's trauma ward.
    According to the IDF Spokesperson Unit, the incident is currently being investigated by the Military Police.

    The scene of the incident
    The Merhavim Regional Council in southern Israel offered condolences to Algazar's family via their Facebook page.
    "The residents of Merhavim lower their heads in deep sorrow over the death of Corporal Sahar Algazar from Moshav Ranen," it said.
    "The whole of Merhavim mourns with the Algazar family. We will accompany them and offer as much help as we can. We pray for the speedy recovery of the IDF officer who was injured in the accident."
