Chile's President Sebastian Pinera said on Thursday his government had reached out to the U.S., United Kingdom and Israel to lobby for access to a vaccine for the new coronavirus when one is developed.
Pinera says he contacted U.S. President Donald Trump to seek to place his country in "pole position" to receive early access to an eventual vaccine.
"We have long been trying to put Chile in a privileged position so that when we have a vaccine that vaccine reaches Chile in a timely manner," Pinera told a press conference in Santiago.
