Retail and technology giant Amazon plans to lay off up to 30,000 company employees starting Tuesday, as part of its efforts to reduce expenses and compensate for over-hiring during peak demand of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is according to three sources familiar with the matter who spoke with Reuters news agency. The cuts represent a small percentage of Amazon's total 1.55 million employees, but nearly 10% of the company's approximately 350,000 corporate workers. This is the largest job cut at Amazon since about 27,000 positions were eliminated starting in late 2022.
