The Houthis joining the war against Israel and Iran is more of a psychological than military threat, according to Colonel Rich Outzen (Ret.) of the Atlantic Council.
He told ILTV that the Houthis don’t possess military capabilities greater than maybe a harassment level, but that still matters.
“That matters because it's part of the political and psychological game here,” Outzen said. “President [Donald] Trump, certainly in the US, and I think Prime Minister Netanyahu and Israel, are both coming under significant domestic stress to show that this has an end, that this war will not continue ad infinitum. So the ability to add one more chess piece on the board, so to speak, strengthens Tehran's ability to say, we can outlast you.”
