David Levy, a prominent figure in Israeli politics and former foreign minister, passed away on Sunday at the age of 86.
Born in Morocco in 1937, Levy immigrated to Israel and rose through the ranks to become a key leader in the Likud party. Renowned for his advocacy for social justice and workers' rights, he held numerous ministerial positions throughout his career, including housing and construction minister and twice as foreign minister.
Levy's legacy includes significant contributions to Israel's diplomatic landscape and his efforts to bridge social divides within the country. He was respected for his eloquence, tenacity and dedication to the Israeli public.
David Levy is survived by his nine children and numerous grandchildren. One of his daughters, Orly Levy-Abekasis, is also a former lawmaker who served a short stint as minister for community empowerment and advancement.
