After the conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, European leaders issued a joint statement congratulating his "efforts to stop the killing in Ukraine and achieve a just and lasting peace." The leaders detailed that "the next step should be talks with the participation of Ukrainian President Zelensky. Ukraine must receive strong security guarantees, there should be no restrictions on its military forces or cooperation with third countries - and Russia must not have a veto right over its accession to the European Union and NATO."
