Israel Bar Association head: 'Attorney General hinders government from demolishing rule of law'

|
The head of the Israel Bar Association, Attorney Amit Becher, said in an interview with ynet studio regarding the pre-dismissal hearing the government is conducting for Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara that it's "a severe blow to democracy. The Attorney General is preventing them from demolishing the rule of law in Israel. Most decisions receive backing from the legal counsel, there are too many cases where the government acts contrary to the law." Regarding the possibility of splitting the Attorney General's role, he said that "even if there is a split, both must be independent and not political appointments." He added that at the time when the Attorney General's hearing is supposed to take place, the Bar Association will hold a protest demonstration outside the District Court in Tel Aviv, where Prime Minister Netanyahu's trial is also being held.
