Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced he will resign within weeks and declared early elections. Vučić said at a rally of his supporters in the capital Belgrade: "I will be president for only a few more weeks and then I will resign." His term was supposed to end in mid-2027. The Reuters news agency noted that Vučić's announcement came after a year and a half of protests against corruption led by students following the collapse of a canopy at a railway station that resulted in the deaths of 16 people nearly two years ago.
