Israeli officials believe there has been significant movement in Hamas’ stance regarding negotiations for the release of hostages held in Gaza, signaling potential progress in efforts to secure a deal.
According to the officials, Israel is currently awaiting Hamas’ response to a recent proposal offering the release of 10 living hostages. U.S. mediators, who are actively involved in the talks, have reportedly provided assurances to Hamas that if it agrees to release more than eight hostages, the United States will ensure that Israel enters negotiations for a second phase of the deal, which would center on ending the ongoing war.
Israeli sources attribute the apparent shift in Hamas' position to mounting military pressure. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have effectively taken control of approximately 40 percent of the Gaza Strip, a development officials say is having a tangible impact on the group's willingness to compromise.
