The autonomous Puntland government in Somalia announced on Sunday that U.S. airstrikes had eliminated "key figures" of the Islamic State group in the region.
In a statement, Puntland authorities described the operation as a "significant breakthrough" in the fight against ISIS.
No details were provided on the identities of those killed or the timing of the strikes. The U.S. has previously conducted counterterrorism operations in Somalia targeting both ISIS and al-Shabab terrorists.
