4 Hamas members arrested in Germany, Netherlands for planning attack on Jewish targets

Police in Germany and the Netherlands arrested four Hamas operatives on suspicion of collecting weapons in Bulgaria and planning to use them for an attack against Jewish targets in Europe, it was reported. The arrests took place December. Bulgarian police uncovered a cache of weapons as part of an investigation involving the Mossad and the Shin Bet. Police found images of guns, ammunition and cartridges on a mobile phone belonging to one of the arrested suspects, which led investigators to the weapon buried under a tree in southern Bulgaria. Prosecutors in Germany said the four men collected weapons to "prepare for potential terrorist attacks against Jewish institutions in Europe." Three of the suspects were arrested in Germany, while the fourth was arrested in the Netherlands. (Itamar Eichner)
