Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevhen Korniichuk said on Wednesday that his country's war against Russian invading forces is "the war of the entire Western world," as the Eastern European nation marks its day of independence.
"We mark this date under dire circumstances. For most of the world, 'Independence Day' is a trivial event. So was the case in Ukraine up until a few months back," he said.
"Today, we can say that we are, in fact, fighting our war of independence. We fight the war of the entire Western world for freedom, democracy and a moral world.
Korniichuk reiterated his plea for "life-saving assistance from Israel, including protective measures and humanitarian and economic aid" and expressed his gratitude to "all Israeli citizens who express solidarity with us."
