IAEA: "Protective dome at Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine damaged by drone"

|
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that the protective enclosure at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, built to contain radioactive material following the 1986 disaster, can no longer perform its main function due to damage caused by a Russian drone. According to the agency, an inspection conducted last week revealed that the dome protecting the power plant, completed in 2019, was damaged by a drone in February. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that "the inspection confirmed that the structure has lost its key safety components, including containment capability, but also found that no permanent damage was caused to its monitoring systems."
