The Police Internal Investigations Department filed an appeal with the Lod District Court against the Kfar Saba Magistrate Court's decision not to convict Ohad Mordechai Goldberg, a police officer who admitted to reckless and negligent conduct after shooting a citizen in the back during an arrest at a gas station in Kibbutz Bahan in the Hefer Valley. In the appeal, the department argues that the court erred both in its decision to overturn the officer's conviction and in the lenient sentence imposed on him, which included 100 hours of community service, a probation order and compensation of only 5,000 shekels to the complainant. Goldberg is the son of former Israel Police Human Resources Division commander, Chief Superintendent Boaz Goldberg. During the legal proceedings, senior police officers rallied to assist Goldberg.
