During his speech at the UN Security Council, Ambassador Danny Danon sounded a Red Alert siren before council members and activated a 15-second timer to illustrate to the ambassadors the reality in which Israeli civilians live under missile fire. "This is the time some civilians in Israel have to reach a protected space. 15 seconds to decide which child to take first, whether to go back for the others, and if they can make it with an elderly parent. Sometimes, the 15 seconds run out before reaching safety," Danon said. He added: "Every time we were asked to stop and give diplomacy a chance, terror exploited the time and rearmed. Israel will not return to solutions that guarantee the next war. This time we will remove the threat at its root."
