Israeli UN ambassador calls on Guterres to condemn Hamas’ treatment of hostages

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon called on UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Saturday to unequivocally condemn Hamas’ inhumane treatment of hostages and demand their unconditional release from what he described as "hell in Gaza."
Following the release of Eli Sharabi, Ohad Ben Ami and Or Levy, Danon sent a formal letter to Guterres, arguing that the frail and malnourished condition of the freed hostages is clear evidence of Hamas’ war crimes and blatant violations of international law.
"It is not the people of Gaza or Hamas operatives who are suffering from malnutrition—our hostages are," Danon wrote, highlighting what he called the cruel and systematic abuse of Israeli captives.
Israel has repeatedly urged the international community to put greater pressure on Hamas to release the remaining hostages, accusing the terror group of using them as bargaining chips while violating their basic human rights.
The UN has yet to issue an official response to Danon’s demand.
