Former Rosh HaAyin Deputy Mayor convicted of accepting bribes

|
The Central District Court in Lod convicted former Rosh HaAyin Deputy Mayor Michael Melamed of bribery offenses following his confession. According to the amended indictment, businessman Michael Nidam sought to win a municipal tender for allocation of land for daycare centers. To ensure his win, he approached lobbyist Omer Carmi, who then contacted Deputy Mayor Melamed and offered him a bribe of 100,000-150,000 shekels per daycare center. Melamed received 50,000 shekels from Nidam, as well as donations to his charity organization. In return, Melamed provided tender documents before their publication and worked to modify the tender terms in favor of the association.
