Brig. Gen. Guy Markizano, whose appointment as IDF attaché in Washington is one of the focal points of tension between Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, was involved in an unusual field security incident, ynet has learned. During the war, his classified military phone was stolen under problematic circumstances. The device was not found, and the military was forced to neutralize it remotely. According to sources familiar with the details, despite the severity of the incident and the sensitivity of his position, Markizano did not update then-Defense Minister Gallant, with whom he worked daily, about the loss of the device. The entire affair is being cited as an example by those who oppose the appointment.
