Aharon Amram, one of Yemen's greatest singers, dies at 86

Aharon Amram, one of the greatest Yemenite singers, has passed away at the age of 86. He produced approximately 150 albums, including recordings of melodies from prayers and sacred texts, and received several awards. Amram was born in Sana'a to Rumia and Shlomo, and in 1948 immigrated to Israel with his family as part of Operation 'On Eagles' Wings.' He participated in the Six-Day War and in the crossing of the Suez Canal. Additionally, he received a special award from the ACUM directorate as a composer and poet for preserving Yemenite musical heritage. In 2020, he was awarded the Minister of Higher Education Prize for lifetime achievement and significant contribution to Jewish culture in Israel.
