Suspended sentence for mounted officer who whipped woman at anti-judicial reform protest in Tel Aviv

|
The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court sentenced Shai Peretz, a police officer who served as a mounted officer and was convicted of assaulting Yael Reuveni during a protest against the judicial reform in Tel Aviv in April 2023, to a suspended prison sentence and ordered him to pay 2,000 shekels in compensation. According to the verdict, during the evacuation of protesters who blocked the Ayalon Highway, Peretz rode toward the complainant, and the horse stepped on her foot. He then whipped her repeatedly with the reins. Peretz denied the charges, but after hearing all the evidence, he was convicted by the court.
