Holocaust survivor Edith Eger, who was forced to dance for Dr. Mengele, dies at 99

|
Psychologist and author Dr. Edith Eger, who survived Auschwitz, died on Monday at the age of 99. She lost her entire family in the Holocaust except for her sister Magda, and turned her life story into a journey of healing, freedom and humanity. Edith combined personal memories and profound insights into the human psyche in the books she wrote - 'The Choice,' 'The Gift' and 'The Ballerina of Auschwitz.' She was a dancer, and at the age of 16 she was thrown with her family into a train car - on the way to Auschwitz. Hours after her parents perished in the gas chambers, Dr. Mengele forced her to dance for him. Edith was then a young prisoner and a new orphan, and she danced to entertain Dr. Mengele and to save herself.
