Palestinians in the Gaza Strip reported heavy artillery strikes since morning hours in the Gaza City area. Palestinians also reported "heavy fire" in the Beit Lahia area in northern Gaza. Last night, the IDF announced the commencement of preliminary operations to secure controlling territories in Gaza, as part of Operation "Gideon's Chariots" which was approved by the cabinet earlier this month.
