The New Zealand government will introduce a bill restricting social media use for those under 16, proposing to impose fines of up to 10% of a company's global revenue for violating the rules. The bill, to be presented by the coalition in parliament, will require platforms to take steps to verify users' ages using existing account information, facial recognition technologies and digital identification documents. "We simply cannot accept the harm being done to a generation of New Zealand children," Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said.
