According to a report in Indian media, Indian pilot Sumit Machchhar, who was stabbed by the Omani co-pilot on the Fly Dubai flight – apparently using the axe from the cockpit – was flown for further treatment from Saudi Arabia to Dubai. According to the report, he underwent emergency surgery at the hospital in the city of Tabuk where the plane landed, and his family made their way to Dubai from Mumbai. The government of Gujarat state in India announced it will award a commendation to the Indian captain. Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, praised the pilot for his "unshakable courage" and said his actions saved the passengers' lives.
