Chinese company "ByteDance" has closed a deal to establish a joint American-owned company that will prevent the government from blocking the popular social network in the US. More than 200 million American users are registered on TikTok, and the struggle surrounding its blocking began in 2020, when President Donald Trump expressed concerns that content promoted on the Chinese application harms US national security. ByteDance said that under the deal, the new company "will maintain the data, applications and algorithm of American users through privacy and cyber security measures."
