Brazil's Supreme Court has issued a house arrest order for former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is standing trial for the attempted coup following the 2022 elections, in which he lost to current President Lula da Silva. Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who has been sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department, issued the arrest order for Bolsonaro, claiming he violated restrictions imposed about two weeks ago - by breaking the ban on using social media and working to get U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene in his trial. The new order also prohibits Bolsonaro from using a mobile phone or receiving visitors, except for his lawyers and close family members.
