The University of California, Berkeley will offer a teaching position to an Israeli dance researcher as part of a settlement agreement, after President Donald Trump's administration determined she was discriminated against based on her national identity. Dr. Yael Nativ, chairwoman of the Israeli Choreographers Association, taught at the university as a visiting lecturer, but after October 7 she was informed by the head of the dance department that she would not be rehired on the grounds that it would provoke anger among students and put the department in a 'problematic' position. Following the incident, Nativ sued the university, and in the settlement agreement Berkeley admitted to its actions and committed to apologizing to her and inviting her back to campus.
