Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva attacked the platform from which he was speaking in his address to the UN General Assembly, claiming that "the UN has failed in one of its most important missions, to rid humanity of the scourge of war. Its credibility has never been lower. We are all hostages to the inaction of the Security Council, which is failing to fulfill its role." He went on to claim that "generations of Palestinians will bear the pain and trauma left by the genocide of women and children carried out by Netanyahu's government in Gaza."
