Brazilian police announced that messages found on former president Jair Bolsonaro's phone show he planned to escape to Argentina and request political asylum from President Javier Milei. According to police, a 33-page draft letter was found on his phone in which the former president requested political asylum in Argentina from President Milei on February 10, 2024, claiming he was politically persecuted in Brazil and feared for his life. Bolsonaro is on trial in Brazil for allegedly attempting to overturn the election results after losing to current President Lula da Silva in 2022.
