The Transportation and Road Safety Ministry is launching a new initiative in an attempt to curb the widespread abuse of disabled parking permits in Israel. The ministry has introduced the 'Chaniti' app, an innovative application designed to prevent the simultaneous use of disabled parking permits for two vehicles at once - a phenomenon that has become one of the main causes of the severe parking crisis for people with disabilities. Initially, the app will be available in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv for a trial period, and later nationwide. According to existing regulations, a disabled parking permit can be registered to up to two vehicles used by the person with a disability, but the use of the associated rights is only permitted when the vehicle is actually being used by the person with a disability. The new app will require users to indicate in real time which vehicle they are currently using, and will block the ability to activate the rights for the second vehicle simultaneously.
