French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced that 1,200 people were arrested during yesterday's violent riots across the country. According to him, 150 police officers and gendarmes (the semi-military police force) were injured in the clashes. During a visit to security forces in central Paris, Lecornu said it was "a miracle that the number of casualties is not higher." He addressed the far-left party France Unbowed, which he accused of supporting violence since the start of the student protests, saying: "Now is the time to choose a side."
