US: Leader of pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University released from detention

|
Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate who was arrested following protests he led against the war in Gaza, has been released from detention after 104 days. The federal judge in New Jersey ruled that his detention was "extraordinary" and could be considered political punishment. Leaving the detention facility in Louisiana wrapped in a keffiyeh, the pro-Palestinian activist said: "They chose the wrong person. No one should be arrested for protesting against a genocide. Justice will prevail." The Trump administration announced it would appeal the decision and that Khalil could be rearrested.
