Former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, who resigned from the Knesset last week, met with representatives of 10 military service organizations to discuss the military exemption law. According to Eisenkot, "The struggle against the draft evasion law extends far beyond recruitment needs; this is a fight for our shared future in the State of Israel." Eisenkot said that "recruitment targets cannot be determined through negotiations with rabbis, but must be derived from IDF needs and a clear demand for all citizens to fulfill their duty. The enforcement and sanctions in the proposed law should be both personal and institutional. The political system and leadership in Israel must choose values over political games."
