Likud MK Amit Halevi and Coalition Chairman MK Ofir Katz have submitted a new bill proposing that the Civil Service Commissioner's appointment be made without tender requirements or any competitive process. The new proposal contradicts the Supreme Court's recent position, which ruled that the law should be interpreted to require a competitive process for the position. Additionally, the lawmakers proposed establishing a new mechanism allowing the Prime Minister to appoint a temporary acting commissioner when the position becomes vacant or when the commissioner is unable to perform their duties - for a period of up to six months, with possible extension subject to government approval.
