The Israeli Air Force's top ace, Brigadier General Giora Even Epstein, passed away this morning at the age of 87. Epstein served as a fighter pilot between 1963-1977, during which he received the Medal of Valor for his combat in the Yom Kippur War - where he shot down 12 fighter jets - out of the 17 aircraft credited to him throughout his service. He is also known as the world champion in downing jet aircraft. The son of Epstein's commander during the 1973 war eulogized him: "I remember Giora as a child, taking care of the house, knitting sweaters and cooking - while on the other hand shooting down more MiGs than anyone else. The world champion in aircraft downings has completed a glorious life journey - on the land he so loved."
