Georgia: Keisha Lance Bottoms elected first Black woman governor in U.S. history

|
Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms was elected governor of Georgia and will be the first Black woman in U.S. history elected to serve as a state governor, according to U.S. media outlets. Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta and a senior official in the Biden administration, defeated Republican billionaire Rick Jackson, who was backed by President Donald Trump and spent more than $100 million of his own money on the campaign. Her victory returns the Georgia governorship to the Democrats for the first time since 1998, in a state where Trump won the presidential election two years ago.
