Former IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi spoke for the first time about the October 7 failure, saying it was "a preventable failure." Halevi said at the "Rule of Law" conference on combating antisemitism that "there was 100% no betrayal from within. I can explain how October 7 happened down to the smallest details." On establishing a state commission of inquiry, he said: "Israel must complete the investigation and ask difficult questions. We need to look the failure in the eye in order to be able to fix it. We had to go to war in Gaza, but the order of priorities should have been first Iran, then Hezbollah and then Hamas."
