U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that "we are getting very close to achieving our objectives, and are considering reducing military efforts in the Middle East regarding Iran's terror regime." He detailed the war objectives: "Complete degradation of Iranian missile capability and launchers; destruction of the defense industry; elimination of their navy and air force; never allowing Iran to approach nuclear capability; and defending our Middle Eastern allies at the highest level." According to Trump, "the Strait of Hormuz will need to be guarded and monitored by other countries that use it - the U.S. does not use it! If asked, we will help countries in their efforts in Hormuz, but this should not be necessary once the Iranian threat is contained."
