US to veto UN resolution: 'Unserious decision that harms diplomatic efforts'

Itamar Eichner|
The US intends to veto the proposal up for vote at the UN Security Council that calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza Strip, unconditional release of all hostages and delivery of aid to all areas of Gaza. An official State Department source described the resolution as "an unserious and embarrassing decision at a time when serious questions are being raised about the UN's utility, funding and use of resources." The source added that this resolution "undermines diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire."
