Reuters|
Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke by phone with Syria's Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shibani, and committed to "consider taking additional steps to review both US and UN terrorism designations regarding Syria," State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce announced. Bruce noted that Rubio discussed lifting American sanctions on Syria with his counterpart, and that the Secretary of State pledged that sanctions previously imposed on "malign Syrian actors," including former dictator Bashar Assad and his associates, would not be removed.
