Jason Collins, the first openly gay basketball player in the U.S. to come out during an active career, has died at 47 after battling brain cancer. Collins' family announced that he passed away at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by family members, after the cancer returned to his body in recent months. Last November, Collins revealed in an interview with ESPN that he had been diagnosed with grade 4 glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive and deadly forms of brain cancer.
