Israeli ambassador to US: 'We oppose F-35 sale to Turkey, but will respect any decision'

|
Israel's ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, said that Jerusalem opposes the sale of F-35 stealth fighter jets to Turkey, "but will respect any American decision." Leiter said at a meeting with the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington: "We don't believe Turkey should possess F-35 aircraft. However, Israel understands that the U.S. administration has a broader set of strategic considerations it must take into account when making the decision." Leiter also addressed Vice President JD Vance's statement that "the U.S. is the only ally Israel has left." Leiter said: "If I were writing that speech, I would have phrased things a bit differently. I simply think that's not correct."
