One of those killed in the explosion at the Intel plant in Kiryat Gat, whose death was confirmed yesterday, is Yakir Kosashvili, 35, from Be'er Sheva. According to fire and rescue services, a preliminary investigation indicates the incident was likely caused by a technical failure resulting from an 'explosion' of the neck of a container holding eight tons of nitrogen trifluoride (NF₃), a non-flammable but toxic and dangerous gas to inhale. This is a rare incident, and it is still unclear whether it was due to wear and tear and whether it could have been prevented.
